Predictive Sports Analytics is a growing team of data analysts, mathematicians, physicists, computer scientists, and statisticians committed to advancing the field of sports science through innovative research and cutting-edge technology. Our team consists of experienced scientists and sporting experts who collaborate to unlock the full potential of athletic performance and health. By combining rigorous academic research with practical applications, we strive to enhance the understanding of cardiovascular health and recovery, fatigue monitoring in athletes, and the precursors that help identify the next generation of sporting talent. Our expertise in Big Data enables us to provide high-impact data visualisations to Clubs and coaching staff, ultimately contributing to the betterment of athletes worldwide and the discovery of new horizons in human performance.
Professor David Jess
A Professor of Physics who joined QUB in 2013 to work on research aspects surrounding the recognition and characterisation of faint features in Big Data sequences. He has been part of over £8M of successful research funding from global agencies, including UKRI, the European Commission, The Royal Society, and The Leverhulme Trust. Has a passion for soccer and golf, managing an U12 Academy team in Northern Ireland and supporting athlete development across the Irish Premiership and Championship.
Mr Eamon McGleenan
A PhD student who joined QUB in 2023 and is working in partnership with STATSports. He has pioneered new metrics for the time-dependent monitoring of athlete fatigue and has played a key role in the bridging of sports science with the fields of mathematics and physics. Has a passion for Gaelic football and currently plays for O’Connell’s GAC Tullysaran in the Armagh GAA intermediate division.
Dr Samuel Grant
A Lecturer of Physics who joined QUB in 2017 and is a leading expert in the visualisation and physical modelling of high-impact and impulsive signatures in high time resolution data. He is a member of multi-disciplinary international teams working on the streamlining and parallelisation of analytical techniques for sports science. Has a passion for rugby and cricket and is currently the Director of Rugby for a leading amateur club in Northern Ireland.
Dr Lisa McFetridge
A Senior Lecturer of Mathematics who joined QUB in 2014. She is an international expert in mixed-effects modelling, predictive analytics, and statistical interpretation of longitudinal data. Her research has played an important role in the National Health Service (NHS), helping to provide a deeper understanding of patient-specific reactions to treatment. Has a passion for cycling and tennis, with a goal of helping all athletes compete without fear of sudden medical complications.
