ISCTE-IUL is a high-quality Portuguese public research-oriented university founded in 1972. There are approximately 9000 students, half of them in doctoral and master programs, and 450 professors. It is a research oriented university with a multi and inter-disciplinary approach that includes eight research units, six laboratories, as well as 16 Departments and four Schools.
Currently, ISCTE-IUL runs 22 doctoral programs including joint/double degree programmes with several internationally universities. ISCTE-IUL runs more than 200 scientific projects each year, and during the last EU research framework programme ISCTE-IUL participated/coordinated over 70 European projects where ESRs were recruited and trained.
Pursuing teaching, research and community service activities, ISCTE-IUL plays a major role in educating qualified specialists and personnel, whose cultural, scientific and technical skills enable them to contribute to sustainable development both at the national and the global level. It has also established more than one hundred national or international cooperations with research, public and private organizations.
