Future Foundation: Expert Creative Mentoring

QUB Future Foundation Provides Expert Mentoring Training for Creatives

This October we welcomed participants in the Future Foundation programme to undertake expert mentoring training at Queen’s. The Foundation, funded by Future Screens NI, matches experienced practitioners to local artists and creative freelancers seeking help and support.

SARC and MediaLab founder, Professor Michael Alcorn, opened proceedings with words of encouragement for participants setting off on their mentoring journey. Mentors and mentees then received bespoke guidance from facilitators Louise Quinn and Charlotte Eakin from AAB Consultancy. The itinerary was packed with round table discussions and networking opportunities, enabling conversations between participants from a range of creative backgrounds including theatre, film-making, music and dance.

The day was coordinated by Future Foundation Programme Officer at QUB, Aimee O'Neill, who plays a vital role in 'match-making' mentors and mentees, and ensuring the smooth running of the programme:

I’m so excited to have launched the Future Foundation Mentoring Programme and to see so many brilliant connections already taking shape. The Training Day facilitated by AAB was such a success - full of creativity, collaboration, and great energy. It’s the perfect start to what’s shaping up to be a really inspiring year ahead.”

Future Screens NI established Future Foundation in 2021 after consultation with key bodies in the sector, and individuals involved in supporting artists, resulting in a successful first phase of the mentoring programme from 2021-2023. The scheme includes mentoring in career and practice development, practical skills and advice on personal planning, identifying and applying for funding, and the acquisition of new practical and technical skills. Mentees are also offered free access to LENA by Inspire’s resources for Wellbeing via their Employee Assistance Programme.

With a new cohort of mentees and mentors matched in 2025-2026, Future Foundation is bringing a new programme of training and development opportunities to Northern Ireland’s creative sector.
