REC Reverse Mentoring Programme 2024

The launch of the REC Reverse Mentoring Programme was held on Thursday 29th August 2024.

Following the success of the pilot - which ran from May 2022 to January 2023 – the second phase of the REC Reverse Mentoring programme launched on Thursday 24th August.  Twelve colleagues (6 pairs) from across Queen’s have volunteered to take part in this year’s accelerated-style programme, committing to 3 conversations in 3 months from September to November 2024.

At the launch event participants had the opportunity to meet their mentoring partner, listen to feedback from the pilot programme and hear more about the purpose of reverse mentoring.  Attendees were keen to begin their mentoring conversations, with many already having planned a date for their first meeting.

The programme aims to provide senior members of staff with the opportunity to learn from - and build greater awareness of - some of the barriers and experiences faced by Black, Asian and Minority Ethnic colleagues across the university.  Reverse mentoring enables this learning to take place in a confidential space by building a trusted, one to one relationship with another colleague.

This programme is part of the work being done across Queen’s to address issues related to Racial Equity, including the work of the Racial Equity Champions (REC) Network.
