Dr. Dan Sun is currently a lecturer within the School of Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering at Queen's.  She obtained her BEng (Materials Engineering) and MSc (Mechanical Engineering) from Nanyang Technological University, Singapore in 2003 and 2005 respectively. She then studied for her PhD at University of Southampton during 2005-2009, specialising in Biotribology and corrosion. Between 2009 and 2014, Dr. Sun worked as a post-doctoral researcher at the Nanomaterials and Integrated Bioengineering Centre (NIBEC), University of Ulster. Her work during this period covered a wide range of topics including nanoparticle dispersion for enhanced microelectronic devices performance, ocean sensor design/ fabrication and microplasma processing of nanomaterials. Dr. Sun has broad research interests and a wide spectrum of expertise including Microplasma processing of Nanomaterials/nanocomposites, Melt Processing of Polymer Nanocomposites, Machining of CFRP and aircraft alloys, Microfluidics & Sensors. Since joining Queen’s, she has been involved in several projects funding by EPSRC, QNRF and EU/Horizon 2020. Dr. Sun is a Chartered Engineer and a member of a number of professional organisations. She is the peer reviewer for several journals including ACS Applied Materials & interfaces, Journal of Composite Materials, Composite A., and Journal of Materials Science: Materials in Medicine.  She is also an editorial board member of the journal Scientific Reports.
