The Ballyhanna Research Project was a cross-border project which undertook a scientific study of the remains of some 1296 human skeletons uncovered as part of the construction of the N15 Bundoran-Ballyshannon bypass. These burials represent the local medieval Gaelic community and the multidisciplinary analysis significantly added to our knowledge of medieval Gaelic Ulster. 

A large, previously unrecorded, archaeological site was discovered hidden beneath the grass in Ranelagh townland during archaeological investigations carried out before the construction of the N61 Coolteige Road Project. The Ranelagh Osteoarchaeology Project analysed over 1,000 human burials alongside a comprehensive programme of radiocarbon dating and ancient DNA (aDNA) analysis. This Project has provided a huge amount of information about daily lives, beliefs and community and family relationships in medieval Ireland.

We've worked with local historical societies to present their knowledge and research to a wider audience.

Since 2017 the Centre for Community Archaeology has hosted the annual Discovery! Conference with our partners in the Ulster Archaeological Society. The conference is an opportunity for both interested members of the public and professionals to hear about recent archaeological research and excavation conducted over the previous 12 months, with lectures from across the archaeological community in Ulster – the commercial sector, museums, academics, societies and community groups – all represented at the podium.

The 28th conference of the European Association of Archaeologists was hosted at Queen's University by the CCA. This saw 3,000 archaeologists from across the world congregate in Belfast for three days of lectures and networking events to advance the study of archaeology in Europe.
