Tips for Filling in the Nomination Form

Tips for Filling in the Nomination Form

  • What did they do?
Provide a concise description of the nominee’s engagement, including their specific role. Remember, the descriptive element should be brief and occupy only a small part of the word count. Focus on what was done without getting bogged down in excessive detail.
  • How did they do it?
Explain the approach or methodology used. Reference relevant literature, university policies, and your own learning (e.g., through CPD or networks) to explain the choices made. Consider the time frame, context, and audience (e.g., students, staff, local community etc.) to demonstrate thoughtful and appropriate decisions. Address any challenges encountered along the way.
  • Why was it done that way?
Provide the evidence and rationale for the chosen approach. Draw on documentation, practices, university policies, and personal learning experiences (e.g., groups, networks). This should justify why the decisions were made and how the approach aligns with professional standards, or expectations.
  • What difference did it make?
Evaluate the effectiveness of the work by explaining how its impact is assessed. Use both qualitative and quantitative approaches to demonstrate the impact on learners, teachers, the institution, or yourself. Reference specific, measurable outcomes rather than vague assertions.
  • How can you tell it had an impact?
Outline the types of evidence or data used to review and evaluate the work. Move beyond simple feedback; provide clear evidence of impact, such as improved outcomes, enhanced stats, institutional recognition, or wider adoption of the approach. Consider including evidence such as publications, reputational gains, or measurable improvements in student outcomes.
  • So what?
Describe any changes made as a result of evaluating effectiveness. Use examples to show how these improvements benefit their work and the wider institution.

  • You are encouraged to write a minimum of 2,000, up to a maximum of 5,000 characters, to help the judging panel understand the hard work, impact and achievements of staff.
  • Clearly demonstrate that the nomination refers to work undertaken during the 2023-24 academic year (except for the  Exceptional Contribution Award, and the Student Choice Award).
