Web CMS: We've Upgraded to Terminalfour 8.3.20

We're happy to announce that the latest T4 Upgrade has been successful.

We are delighted to have successfully moved to the latest version of the Web CMS. Alongside the usual platform security improvements, and the introduction of new solution development hooks, this latest release includes a range of improvements and fixes relating to accessibility in the Terminalfour Platform.

Accessibility

The key accessibility improvements and fixes are based on client feedback and third party accessibility audits and are as follows:

  • Improved Colour Contrast
The colours used throughout the platform have been tweaked to ensure there is sufficient colour contrast. You may notice button and badge colours are darker and labels have been made easier to read, and overall text is more legible for all users.
  • Improved Keyboard Navigation and Screen Reader Support
For those users who require assistive technology or prefer keyboard navigation to pointer devices, this release improves the user experience in these areas. Screen readers will now announce with more context and keyboard navigation has improved across the product, especially within tabs.

Terminalfour take accessibility very seriously and have committed to further improving the accessibility of the platform based on feedback and ongoing accessibility testing in subsequent releases.

Other Improvements

Other notable improvements within the platform are as follows:

  • Site Structure Performance Improvements
Given that the Site Structure is an integral part of managing the structure and content within the Web CMS, Terminalfour have reviewed and improved the speed of expanding and contracting branches and this is now up to 12 times faster than previous releases. So if you are responsible for a number of websites, or a large complex website, this improvement should make navigating your site's hierarchy feel much snappier.
  • Improved Validation When Editing a Content Item
When saving a Content Item with one or more fields that are required to contain content but are left empty by a user the 'Save Changes' button was disabled. If the Content Item was very long, it was difficult for users to understand why it was not saving. Now, the screen will scroll to the Content Item with the issue.

Platform Development and Functionality

This latest version of the Web CMS provides a number of development and functionality benefits that the team will take some time to assess. We have already identified how existing functionality and assets could potentially be improved from a development perspective and implemented to make life easier for our service users when they need to use more complex Content Types. We will provide more information relating to this when the time arises.

If you have any comments or queries relating to the above, please do not hesitate to get in contact with us via the IT Service Desk.
