Black History Month 2024

Queen’s University Belfast launched Black History Month on 1 October 2024 with an inspiring opening event, setting the stage for a month-long celebration of Black history, culture, and achievements.

Highlights of the launch event included a welcome by Professor Karen McCloskey (Associate Pro-Vice-Chancellor EDI), an overview of the Student’s Union programme by Suyi Yang, details of Nigerian Society events shared by Noah Agbo, African Scholars Research Network initiatives introduced by Dr Gift Sotonye-Frank and closing remarks by Maurice Macartney.

The month long programme includes:

  • Special Collections Blog and Archives Library display
  • REC Book Club discussion on Toni Morrison’s Beloved
  • Screenings and webinars
  • Comparative Caribbean Carnival Cultures event
  • Participation in the Black History Expo
  • Festive closing event with food, music, and conversation
