Queen’s University Belfast celebrated the achievements of the first cohort of Technician Apprentices on Wednesday 20th August.

Gillian Riddell, Technician Commitment Manager at Queen’s University Belfast, has been awarded the prestigious Papin Medal in recognition of her outstanding leadership and commitment to the technical community in higher education.

Queen’s University Belfast hosted the inaugural All-Ireland Technical Staff Conference 2025 on 10 June, bringing together technicians, researchers, and academics from across the island of Ireland.

We were delighted to host the Technician Commitment’s first ever signatory event in Northern Ireland on 15th May 2025 at Riddel Hall.

A successful report of our recent three-day virtual work experience event, ‘Technicians in Higher Education’, held from 7th to 9th April 2025 in collaboration with Speakers for Schools and Ulster University.

We are delighted to celebrate Emma, Senior Technician at the Queen's Marine Laboratory in Portaferry, for winning the ‘Making an Impact’ award at the Staff Excellence Awards 2023-24 in Mandela Hall, Belfast, on Friday, 28th March 2025.

Queen’s is proud to have participated in NI Apprenticeship Week from 3rd to 7th February 2025.

Queen's have been recognised for their Technician Apprenticeship Programme, in partnership with Belfast Met and are finalists in the 'Large Employer' category.

Queen's University Belfast received an Impact Award for the work that has been done by all Technician's.

The 2024 Technician Awards were held on the afternoon of Thursday 23rd May, at the 2024 Technician Showcase.

On Thursday 23rd May 2024 over 200 people, including Queen's technicians, professional support staff and academic staff, attended the 3rd Queen's Technician Showcase.

Would-be apprentices and employers are being encouraged to release their potential during Northern Ireland Apprenticeship Week 2024.

Queen's University Belfast has announced the launch of it's new Technician Apprenticeship Programme, set to begin in September 2023.

Chris Preshaw, Technical Manager in Biological Sciences, was among the esteemed guests present at the Coronation ceremony of King Charles III.

As the School of Nursing and Midwifery’s Technical Manager and the Technical Lead for Simulation, Kevin has been instrumental in the delivery of the new InterSim, a unique and innovative educational centre.

The second Queen's Technician Showcase took place on Thursday 26th May 2022. The event showcased the work and diversity of technical expertise across the institution.

Following the approval of the Action Plan in January 2021, the Steering Group agreed to the setting up of five working groups who will begin to address and respond to the twenty eight points that were identified.

Technicians at Queen's came together for a virtual networking event on Friday, 23rd April 2021.  

These awards are open to anyone working in higher education across the UK and Ireland. For QUB Technicians the most notable category is “Outstanding Technician of the Year”.

Many congratulations to Mr Christopher Preshaw, Chief Technician in the School of Biological Sciences, who has been awarded a BEM in the 2021 New Year’s Civil Honours list in recognition for services to higher education.

We are delighted to hear that Aine has been shortlisted for this recent addition to the Times Higher Education Award. Aine is a technician in the School of Pharmacy contributing to education and research within the School.

The IST 1/2 Day Virtual Conference took place on Wednesday 11th November 2020 9.15am - 1.30pm

Throughout the pandemic technical from across the Faculty of Health and Life Sciences have supported the QUB Covid-19 response by helping to produce buffer solution on campus which is vital for Covid-19 testing facilities in Northern Ireland.

Congratulations to Gail Carson and Áine McGuckin, technicians from the School of Pharmacy, recently awarded HEA Associate Fellowships for their contribution to teaching.

Nominations are now open for THE Outstanding Technician of the Year 2020

The University-wide event brought together staff, visitors and students for a range of talks, demonstrations and displays that showed off the work carried out by the University's skilled and diverse technical staff.

Technical staff Kirsty McLaughlin and Gaurang Patel provided a laboratory tour of the Tissue Culture facilities in the Centre for Cancer Research and Cell Biology in May.

On Tuesday 19 June over 100 technical staff came together in the North Lecture Theatre, MBC, for the first MHLS Faculty Technician Event.

The National Technician Development Centre is holding a photo competition for technical staff across the country. As always, our aim is to promote the vital role that technicians play in their workplace.
